Mandala of Healing Therapies
Pancha karma is the core of a vast mandala of therapies, which are the best means for preventing disease and promoting excellent health. In this mandala, there are two main categories, shodhana and shamana. Shodhana refers to Pancha Karma’s five main cleansing and elimination procedures, while shamana encompasses the supporting therapies that are the preparation and post-therapy measures for pancha karma proper. Both groups of therapies are explored at length in Wise Earth Ayurveda. However, the Pancha Karma III (Advanced Level) studies consist of only of the shodhana therapies.

Study of Shodhana, the central and primary action in the mandala of treatments, includes five major therapeutic procedures:

  • Vamana (therapeutic emesis),
  • Virechana (therapeutic purgation),
  • Vasti Karma (Anuvasana Vasti and Niruha Vasti),
  • Anuvasana Vasti (therapeutic oily enema) and
  • Nasya (therapeutic nasal insufflation)

Wise Earth Ayurveda:  THE HEALING DIET FOR RECOVERY

Level Three Course: Advanced
55 HRS ONSITE CONTACT
20 HRS GUIDED HOME ASSIGNMENTS [In-Person via Web] 25 HRS CLINICAL APPLICATION [In-Person Live] CREDIT POINTS: 100

Wise Earth Ayurveda’s Healing Diet is designed specifically for recovery from illness and is predominantly sattvic in nature. The sages have proven that peaceful and nourishing foods form Mother Nature can heal our worse illness. The Healing Diet is prepared for all metabolic types by restoring agni, digestive fire, and allowing the body to adjust to its newly attuned state of revitalization. In addition to use during illness and the seasonal junctions, The Healing Diet may be used as a light, rejuvenating regimen to reduce fatigue, excess weight, and stress from time to time throughout the year.

According to the classic Ayurvedic text known as the Sushruta Samhita, a sattvic diet gladdens the heart, nurtures the body, revives memory, and brings our inner rhythms into proper alignment with the cosmic rhythms. Emotions, activities, or foods may be referred to as sattvic when they reflect the qualities of peacefulness, purity, and harmony. When they reflect the qualities of transformation, dynamic progress, and stimulation, they are rajasic; when they bring forth the qualities of inertia and dullness, they are tamasic.

As a general rule, sattvic foods should make up the greater part of the dietary recommendation for Pitta (fire) types, and to a large extent for Vata (air) types. Some rajasic foods and, to a lesser extent, tamasic foods are also necessary for these two types to maintain vital function within the body. Kapha (water) types fare best when the greater portion of their diet is made up of rajasic food and, to a lesser extent, sattvic and tamasic foods.

This diet should not be used as a mainstay year-round, however, since the body is made up of all five elements and needs the stimuli of the universe’s three gunas (cosmic energies that create and sustain life): Sattva (peace-producing energy),rajas (activity-producing energy), and tamas (restproducing energy).
